Monthly Meeting Information

Join us on  Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:30 am for our next monthly meeting. The meeting will be held at Valerie Hill Vineyard & Winery. 

1687 Marlboro Rd., Stephens City, VA 22655

We will be discussing the October 2026 group trip to Portugal.

Attendees are responsible for purchasing their drink selections.  Wine tastings are $24 per person. Light snacks will be provided by the group host. Attendees can also bring food to enjoy or purchase from the winery. No outside alcohol is allowed.

Please email dminter@dreavacations.com if you plan to attend so a basic headcount can be given to the winery staff.

Group members will be paired for the double room option, with a limited number of single rooms available for those desiring extra privacy.

Itinerary

  

Day 1: Departure

Begin your adventure by arriving at your departure airport, ready to discover the spectacular cities and landscapes of Portugal.


Day 2: Arrival in Lisbon

Arrive in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, known for its scenic coastline and pastel-colored buildings. After transferring to the hotel, enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. You may wish to explore historic neighborhoods or relax by the River Tagus at a riverside café or bar. Overnight in Lisbon.


Day 3: Lisbon – Óbidos – Nazaré – Tomar

After breakfast at the hotel, embark on an excursion to Óbidos, a charming gem enclosed within medieval city walls and renowned for its cobblestone streets and delightful architecture. Continue to Nazaré, a surfer’s paradise famous for its massive waves and popular beaches on the Silver Coast. The old town features narrow, cobblestone streets, local markets, and seafood restaurants. The journey concludes in Tomar, a city rich in cultural heritage and historical significance. Overnight stay in Tomar.


Day 4: Tomar – Coimbra – Porto

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, followed by leisure time to explore Tomar. Today’s highlights include a visit to the Convent of Christ, noted for its Templar origins, imposing walls, and medieval architecture. The interior reveals a blend of architectural styles and exquisite details, with the Charola—a unique round church—standing out as a focal point. Next, travel to Coimbra, a city celebrated for its academic history. Explore the University of Coimbra, one of Europe’s oldest universities, and its historic Joanina Library, Royal Palace, and botanical gardens—a UNESCO World Heritage site. The day ends with a transfer to Porto and an overnight stay.


Day 5: Porto

After breakfast, set out on a walking tour of Porto, passing landmarks such as the Clérigos Tower, Aliados Avenue, São Bento train station, and the iconic Luís I Bridge. Cap the morning with a scenic boat tour on the Douro River, offering panoramic views of the city. Later, visit a local port wine cellar for a tasting session. In the afternoon, enjoy Porto at your own pace, whether admiring the famous tiled facades or sampling local cuisine in a cozy restaurant. Overnight stay in Porto.


Day 6: Porto – Douro Valley – Porto

Following breakfast, prepare to explore the scenic Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its terraced vineyards and wine production. Journey through the valley, stopping in Amarante for photos, before continuing to Régua. Arrive around lunchtime, then visit Pinhão to see its famously tiled train station. Enjoy a wine tasting at a vineyard, learning about port wine production while sampling local varieties. Return to Porto in the evening, marveling at the Douro Valley’s stunning landscapes. Overnight stay in Porto.


Day 7: Porto – Lisbon

After breakfast, transfer back to Lisbon. Upon arrival, enjoy free time to explore the city’s cobblestone streets, quaint cafés, and unique bars. In the afternoon, take a walking tour of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood, known for its colorful houses, vibrant street art, and labyrinthine streets. Visit Lisbon’s Cathedral and stroll through lively Alfama Square. Check in at your hotel and spend the evening at your leisure. Overnight stay in Lisbon.


Day 8: Lisbon – Évora and Wine Tasting

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, followed by a full-day tour to Évora with wine tasting in the Alentejo/Setúbal region. Visit a charming winery for a delightful tasting experience, then embark on a walking tour through Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights include the mystical Bones Chapel and the impressive Church of S. Francisco.


Day 9: Lisbon – Home

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before your transfer to the airport for your return flight. Please note that, depending on your flight schedule and hotel breakfast service, you may not be able to enjoy breakfast on this final day. Return home as your memorable journey concludes.
